Pocket Bikes - What Are They?

You might think that pocket bikes are toys that fit in a little boy's pocket, and for which mothers have to search and remove before going to church. Well, no, they aren't. Perhaps collectible cards like baseball cards? No, not that either.

Pocket bikes are actually small gas or electric bicycles that the very young can really ride. When a child, from three to about eight years old, is given a mini bike, the eyes light up and a big smile shines on the child's face. When they get on and ride them, it will be an all day adventure as they won't want to get off.

These small bikes look and operate very much like the full size models; the kind that Dad rides. These bikes are usually 47cc, weigh from 44 to 54 pounds, and most adults can pick one up and put it in the trunk of a car. You can then drive to an empty parking lot or a lonely sidewalk for a safe learning experience. Although size varies slightly, most pocket bikes are about 254 inches high and 40 inches long. They come in a variety of bright colors; red, blue, yellow, green, and even black. Colorful helmets and gloves complete the delight and safety of the child.

I might add that teenagers and pre-teens think it is great to go tooling around town on the tiny bikes. Even though they are not safe for riding on highways, they can get up to speeds of 47 MPH when equipped with performance parts, and they can support weight of 170 pounds or more.

A pocket bike makes an inexpensive gift when you consider the joy it will bring to a home.
