Time to Know Bikes

Are you considering going back to pedals cycling but having a hard time choosing the right bike for you? Don't let the plethora of bikes available today confuse you. Here's a simple introduction of the four commonly used bikes today.

Let's start off with the touring bike. If you want to carry baggage while pedals cycling; this type of bike will suit those needs. It is equipped with heavy duty wheels for your heavy loads on luggage racks, fenders and even bottle cages. Even if you are carrying heavy loads, touring bikes are easy to maneuver and are good at both rough and paved roads. Moreover, its long wheelbase can absorb road shocks better than typical racing bikes. Aside from its heavy duty design, the frame geometry will also allow you to ride in comfort. It also has more padded seats as well as lower gears to help you during uphill climbs.

Now let's go to the bike you see on Tour de France. If you want to learn some serious pedals cycling then the racing bike is for you. It is commonly known as a road bike and is characterized by its slim wheels and drop down handlebars. This bike is very lightweight and can optimize your pedaling efficiency. Road bikes need time to get used too since the handlebars are not positioned for the cyclist's comfort. You may find that position awkward to ride at first but even so, it gives you the most aerodynamic position.

Another commonly used bike is the mountain bike. This bike is the total opposite of the racing bike in appearance. Instead of slim, it has knobby tires and its upright handlebars will give you a more comfortable ride. It is a popular choice for someone who wants to go pedals cycling on a dirt path or off-road trails. Its knobby tires, shock absorbing capacities and superb breaking system will help you overcome any road obstacle. Even if it can be used on paved streets too, road bikes and touring bikes still outweigh the MTB's performance in long journeys.

There's still one choice for you if you if you don't want to ride on a road or touring bike in long journeys. The hybrid bike is your best choice if you don't want to deal with the heaviness of an MTB but want to enjoy its riding comfort. Although it still can't beat the speed of road bikes, you can easily carry loads and accessories just like the touring bikes. Moreover, its tires are less prone to flats giving you a more enjoyable pedals cycling ride.
