What’s New in Cyclocross

The proliferation of gravel bikes as specialized rigs means manufacturers have, for the most part, returned to building race-specific cyclocross bikes with quick-steering geometry. Tire clearance has continued to increase primarily for mud clearance. However, the upshot of that is that many of these bikes can clear up to a 40mm tire for off-season gravel adventures. The 1x drivetrain has become ubiquitous along with flat-mount disc brakes, so you’ll see both more often than not on ’cross bikes. For now, most bikes still have external brake cable routing to facilitate brake service during the often muddy race season.
